The Galaxy Watch 5 Is Set To Receive Additional Health Function That Will Utilize Its Temperature Sensor

Samsung recently released a software update for the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, allowing them to monitor a user’s menstrual cycle using the built-in skin temperature sensors. However, it seems that Samsung plans to expand the use of these temperature sensors by introducing additional health tracking capabilities in future software updates for the Galaxy Watch 5 series. These new features will also be based on skin temperature readings.

A Samsung Health Service executive made the recent announcement about the expansion of skin temperature-based health-tracking features on the Galaxy Watch 5 series through the company’s Korean community forum. However, specific information regarding the upcoming features and their release timeline was not disclosed. The executive cited the difficulty in providing exact details due to service policies influencing the scheduling of updates.

The Skin Temperature Sensors In The Galaxy Watch 5 Series Are Not Being Fully Utilized.

Although the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro both have infrared temperature sensors, they were not utilized until recently when Samsung introduced skin temperature-based menstrual tracking. However, users cannot access these sensors at their discretion as they are activated automatically by the smartwatches when tracking specific health aspects.

In contrast, the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra permit users to measure their body temperature at any time. Samsung could consider adopting a similar approach to enhance the usefulness of the skin temperature sensors in the Galaxy Watch 5 series. Similarly, the ECG functionality on Samsung smartwatches is not as widely available as on Apple watches, and Samsung could potentially draw inspiration from Apple in this regard as well.

For those who are growing impatient with Samsung’s delayed release of a new smartwatch this year, the Galaxy Watch 5 remains available for purchase and is now being offered at a reduced price, which is quite appealing. As of now, this model is still Samsung’s most recent smartwatch, as the successor is not expected to be released until the latter half of this year.

The 40mm Galaxy Watch 5 available for purchase is the Bluetooth variant and offers a range of health and fitness features, such as sleep tracking, advanced GPS tracking, body composition analysis, and other functions.
