New information suggests that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature a periscopic zoom camera. The leaked details indicate that the camera design closely aligns with a previously filed patent application. Unlike Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra, which employs a traditional lens design with moving elements, Apple’s patent describes a “single element light folding prism.”
This design involves a single transparent piece that internally reflects light before passing through forward-facing lenses. While the impact on image quality remains uncertain, the patent suggests an aperture range of f/2.2 to f/2.8, comparable to the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 3x telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.4. Additionally, reducing moving parts is likely to enhance reliability and durability against daily wear and tear.
