If there were an iOS 16.5 beta 2 release, it would have been rolled out to registered developers two weeks after the release of the first iOS 16.5 beta. The initial beta introduced some minor changes, and the details can be found below.
What’s new in iOS 16.5?
The second beta of iOS 16.5 will be available to registered developers starting today. Once the update becomes available, it can be installed over the air by navigating to the Settings app, choosing General, and then selecting Software Update. The current build number for this update is 20F5039e. Although the announcement of iOS 17 at WWDC is only two months away, iOS 16.5’s latest release does not include any significant modifications worth mentioning.
The latest iOS 16.5 version brings two new features: the ability to use Siri to start or stop a screen recording and the inclusion of a dedicated Sports tab in the Apple News app, a feature that has been in demand by sports enthusiasts.
Finally, Code discovered in iOS 16.5 indicates that Apple may be developing a quad-box picture feature for its TV app, designed to allow users to stream multiple sporting events simultaneously. This feature would enhance the experience for fans who subscribe to live sports events such as MLS Season Pass and Friday Night Baseball. It would also enable Apple to compete more effectively with other streaming TV services that offer similar features.
The general release of iOS 16.5 is expected to be in May, and a public beta is expected to be released later this week as part of Apple’s ongoing beta testing efforts leading up to the official release.
In addition to iOS 16.5 beta 2, Apple is releasing new betas for developers, including iPad OS 16.5 beta 2, watch OS 9.5 beta 2, tv OS 16.5 beta 2, and macOS Ventura 13.4 beta 2. If you notice any changes in these updates, feel free to share your observations in the comments section or on Twitter.
